Volunteers Make a Difference

 
The City of Boulder City's Volunteer Services Program coordinates efforts to allow citizen and student participation, input and involvement in the daily operation of the City's departments. Our citizens are a valuable resource and the knowledge and experience they bring with them can be utilized throughout the City.

 
Consider becoming a volunteer to assist in special events or become involved in short or long-term projects. The City of Boulder City's Volunteer Services Program invites you to use your skills and talents to benefit and serve our community. For more information on how you can get involved, or if the volunteer opportunity in which you are interested is not listed below, call the City of Boulder City Human Resources Department.

 
To apply for one of the volunteer opportunities listed below, complete a Volunteer Application Form and return the completed, signed form to the Human Resource office located upstairs in Room 3 of City Hall, 401 California Avenue, Boulder City, NV 89005.
 
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
 
ANIMAL CONTROL - work at new shelter when building is completed; grooming and socializing animals; assist in assessing animals for adoption
 
BCTV - participate in community or self-directed television productions
 
CITY CLERK'S OFFICE - Council appointed Boards and Commissions 
 
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT - Volunteers would be put to use to help the Community Development Department reduce its backlog, ease the workload and ultimately improve its efficiency by assisting with the following projects and/or functions:  answering the telephone, assembling agenda packets, agenda mailings, assist with construction plans, permit applications, etc., assist with imaging and microfilming process, collaborate with the Community Development Director and Building Official on projects as they arise.
 
MUNICIPAL COURT - Court volunteers will gain knowledge of intergovernmental relations and behind-the-scenes functioning of a court environment. These are some of the projects or functions volunteers may assist with: answer telephone; filing; conducting and tabulating surveys; data entry; typing; accounts receivables; assist with court calendar; quashing bench warrants
 
PARKS & RECREATION
Art Center - data entry, copying, general office duties
Fitness Center - collect fees, data entry, demonstrate fitness equipment; on-call status or two-hour scheduled shifts available for volunteers. Be "where your friends are," be fit and have fun.
 
POLICE DEPARTMENT - Police Auxiliary Program
 
PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE - copying; assist with special projects or events; post flyers at various locations in town; work 2-6 hours per month or more as needed.
 
PUBLIC WORKS - The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all public streets and parks in the City which creates a variety of volunteer opportunities. Some of the areas in need of volunteer assistance are:
Litter removal in parks, medians and parkways
Weed removal at City cemetery, along sidewalks and in flood control channels
Check and repair all holiday decorations (October of each year)
 
OTHER CITY DEPARTMENTS - general office duties; special projects; data entry
 
Volunteer Services Program
The purpose of our volunteer program is to expand and enhance City services through the recruitment, placement, recognition and participation of volunteers in the delivery of quality customer service.

 
Below are listed some of the responsibilities that may be assigned to volunteers:
  • Answering telephones
  • General office duties
  • Assisting City departments with special projects
  • Conducting and tabulating surveys
  • Special events
Participants may gain many benefits from volunteer service including:
Information about career opportunities available in local government
Opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills in an actual work setting
A mentoring relationship with their liaison
Experience in their volunteer work area
Improved communication between citizens and city departments
The City also benefits from the Volunteer Program by:

A background investigation will be conducted on each volunteer. Fingerprinting, detailed background investigation, and drug screening may also be required for volunteers serving in some departments and/or performing certain duties or occupations.
