Frequently Asked Questions: Q. What do I need to start a business in Boulder
City?
A. Contact the Utility Office at (702) 293-9219 for
specific requirements. Generally speaking, most
licenses fall under 2 categories: (1) Resident
License, which is a business whose principal place
of operation is located in Boulder City, and (2)
Non-Resident License, which is a business whose
principal place of operation is located outside
Boulder City. In each instance, a properly completed
business license application, fire, police and
zoning inspections, registration with Department of
Taxation, a Clark County health permit (when food is
involved) and a copy of the Affirmation of
Compliance from the State of Nevada Division of
Industrial Insurance is required.
Q. Can I operate my business from my home?
A. Any business wishing to use their home for their
place of business must first apply for a "Home
Occupation Permit" through the Community Development
Department. Certain criteria must be met before
receiving approval. After receipt of the Home
Occupation Permit, a business license may be issued.
Q. My club wants to hold a fund raiser. Do we need a
license?
A. Raffles and other similar fund raisers are
considered gambling. A special permit for these
types of activities may be issued to no-profit
organizations. The Boulder city Licensing Board must
approve all gaming permits. You can obtain the
application from the Utility Office. Proof of
non-profit status is required.
Q. Do I need a license for a garage sale?
A. Yes. Garage Sale Permits can be obtained through
the Utility Office at no charge.
Q. Does my pet need a license?
A. All dogs, cats and pot-bellied pigs are required
to have an animal license. Proof of rabies
vaccination must be furnished at the time the
license is requested. Licenses may be obtained at
the Utility Office or Boulder City Animal Control
Office. Licenses are due January 1st of each year
and become delinquent February 1st of each year.
Q. Can I sell liquor and have gaming in my business
in Boulder City?
A. Gaming is prohibited in Boulder City. Liquor
licenses are subject to approval of the Boulder City
Liquor Board and are issued for a period of 1 year.
