The Public Works Department of the City of Boulder City manages all aspects of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for the City of Boulder City and provides development services for all private construction projects. We maintain top quality parks, streets, flood control facilities, buildings, water distribution system, sewer collection and treatment facilities.  In addition, the Public Works Department is responsible for managing numerous other City items, including the municipal cemetery, refuge collection and disposal, and many of the City’s agreements with local business operations such as gravel pits and power plants.   The Public Works Department professionally represents Boulder City at the Southern Nevada Water Authority meetings, Regional Transportation Commission meetings, and Flood Control District meetings.

Message from the Director:

Dirty Job?

Day in and day out City staff in the Water & Sewer Division of Public Works go above and beyond what most of us have to deal with in our jobs.  These men routinely have to work over manholes that are “live.”  In other words, raw sewage flows through their office.  While odors are generally unpleasant, I do not lose sleep worrying about their safety.  These men are highly trained in their field and are tested and certified by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection.

The project shown below is the installation of grinders at our lift stations that serve Hemenway Valley.  Occasionally larger objects such as pieces of wood or towels accidently find their way into the sewer system.  These types of items cause severe wear on the pumps.  Grinders are being installed upstream of the pumps to completely crush larger particles thereby extending the life of the pumps.

The Public Works Department was invaded by superheroes, princesses, and a couple of scary creatures on the morning of October 29, 2008.   I would like to thank Denise in the Parks and Recreation Department along with the teachers and kids who stopped by to put a smile on all our faces.  The kids were a lot cuter in person, I am just not a good hallway photographer.  And of course, they did not want to look at me, they were interested in the ladies with goodies.
